El Sonido de la Revolucion//The Sound of the Revolution

Cuba is a place of many contradictions. Its government expresses concern about the poor, but its policies keep the quality of life low in the country. Many Cubans are extremely proud of their African heritage, but racism remains any issue on the island. I attempt to navigate some of these contradictions through music. I believe that a society's music can provide insight about its people and culture.  This podcast examines Cuban music throughout time, from traditional African spirituals to contemporary urban music.
